Shi Tingsong (L), with his wife, helps his non-biological mother Song Silian at their home.
Shi Tingsong, 55, a staff member of the branch of the Postal Savings Bank of China in Weixin County of Zhaotong City in southwest China's Yunnan Province, has been selected as a candidate of the Fifth National Moral Models Selection and Awards Campaign for his selfless dedication to the nursing of elderly associates and other family members over the last three decades.
Shi was deeply moved by the stories of Song Silian, who was also a moral model and a winner of a "March 8th Red-Banner Pacesetters" award; he first read the coverage of Song in a newspaper in 1982. Accompanied by his fiancée and biological mother, Shi soon paid a visit to the home of Song, in late 1983. At that time, Song lived with her only son who was paralyzed, while her other two children had passed away years before. Since then, Shi has lived with Song and her family members, and spared no efforts to take care of them.
Jointly launched by the Publicity Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), the Civilization Office of the Central Committee of the CPC, the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) and other governmental bodies and held every two years, the selection and awards campaign aims to find and promote moral models across the whole country and further inspire the public to follow their exemplary deeds, along with the observance of positive traditional Chinese culture.
