Workers at China Post's Xiaji Branch in east China's Anhui Province visited impoverished students and families with left-behind children on August 5, bringing food and school supplies to again demonstrate China Post's care for them, deeds that have won commendation from the people.
Rapid economic development throughout the world has caused a rich-poor gap that has forced millions of workers to emigrate from rural areas to cities. Millions of children have been left behind in rural areas in the care of relatives, mostly grandparents or family friends with little or no education or ability to take care of them.
There are 61 million left-behind children in China, 40 percent of them under the age of 5. Seventy percent of left-behind children in China do not get to see their parents annually.
