Kong Weike, the 78th generation grandson of Chinese philosopher and teacher Confucius and president of Shandong Art Academy, was appointed honorary postmaster of the national first Confucius Post Office at its unveiling ceremony in east China's Shandong Province on June 11, or China's 11th Cultural Heritage Day.
The Confucius Post Office is to combine postal services with culture tasting, education, entertainment and online activities, and create a brand new service platform by integrating modern information technology and Confucian culture.
A forum on Confucian culture was held after the ceremony by China Post Jining to discuss the integration of postal culture, calligraphy and Confucianism.
"Postal services have played an essential role in cultural transmission. As a window to spread traditional values, we expect to strengthen cooperation with China Post Group and promote traditional culture," Kong Weike said at the forum.
Confucius (551 – 479 BC) was a Chinese teacher, editor, politician, and philosopher of the Spring and Autumn period.
The philosophy of Confucius emphasized personal and governmental morality, correctness of social relationships, justice and sincerity.
